Once you learn to read, you will be forever free. – Frederick Douglass
I read my first ever book in 2005. I was 16 then, and soon feel in love with the joy of reading. With every new book, came excitement and eagerness. It felt almost like a magic to visualize the words embossed on paper in my own way. And I realized the importance of reading thereafter. There hasn’t been any looking back. Gifting myself a book on special days has become more of a habit now.
And I always wanted my child to get into this habit early on. I introduced her to book when she was 4 months old. At around 10 months, each day she would get me a new book from her stack and ask me to read it out for her. It almost felt magical to see that. At 16 moths today, when she wants to eat a particular fruit, she points it out from the book. She’s still learning to speak but can explain and understand everything we talk to her about.
That’s the power of books. My first read was ‘One Night at the Call Centre’ by Chetan Bhagat, and I’m currently ready ‘Good Vibes, Good Life’ by Vex King. I’m a slow reader and love to read at my own pace.
When did you start reading? What’s your favourite book?
